The Niger Delta Joint Task Force, Operation Delta Safe, has announced the destruction of several illegal oil refining sites in Abia State. Rear Admiral John Okeke, the JTF Commander, made the announcement in a statement released in Yenagoa on Sunday.
According to Okeke, the task force also intercepted 14 boats loaded with crude oil in the Obuzor, Okoloma, and Komkom River areas of Abia State. The operation, which was conducted by the air component of the task force, was based on reliable intelligence provided by the public.
“The mission was meticulously planned and executed to combat illegal activities along the Obuzor, Okoloma River, and Komkom River regions,” said Rear Admiral Okeke.
The task force has been visiting communities in the region to warn against engaging in illegal crude oil activities that threaten the nation’s economy. This initiative aligns with the anti-crude oil theft and illegal oil bunkering policies advocated by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.
“Our operations are a clear message that oil theft and economic sabotage in the Niger Delta region will not be tolerated. We are ready, capable, and determined to combat illegal oil activities and protect the nation’s critical assets,” Okeke asserted.
He also urged the public to continue providing the task force with reliable information to help track down oil thieves and vandals.
