- North Central APC stakeholders initiated consultations to persuade Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to their party before the 2027 elections
- They emphasized Mutfwang’s unique position as the only PDP governor in the region, suggesting his defection would benefit the APC
Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the North Central have initiated consultations to persuade Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang to defect to their party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a letter dated July 18, 2024, and submitted to the office of the APC National Secretary, Barrister Ajibola Bashiru, the stakeholders highlighted Mutfwang’s unique position as the only PDP governor in the North Central region, suggesting his defection would be in the best interest of the APC.
The letter stated, “Mr secretary Sir, this call for Mutfwang to join the APC has become necessary after reviewing the state of our party in the North Central region, as well as the position of Plateau State governor which is vital in the political equation and calculation of the APC in the region, and the nation by extension.”
Sani Ibrahim Jigas, the Nasarawa State chairman of the North Central APC Forum, made the submission on behalf of Salleh Mandung Zazzaga, the forum’s chairman.
In an interview with newsmen, Jigas explained that they addressed the letter to the national secretary because the North Central region does not recognize Abdullahi Ganduje as the party’s national chairman due to an ongoing case seeking his removal at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
