Two first-year female students of Tai Solarin University of Education in Ijagun, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, were allegedly raped by suspected armed robbers in an incident on Monday.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 12:30 am when the suspected robbers invaded the students’ apartments.
Armed with guns, the attackers forcibly took the students’ personal belongings before leading them to an uncompleted building where they took turns raping them.
A source at the school, who requested anonymity due to fear of victimization, recounted the ordeal.
“The suspects forced the students to surrender their phones and other belongings. They then dragged them to an uncompleted building and raped them,” the source disclosed.
The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident to the Punch Online via a WhatsApp message on Monday.
“The incident was reported at the Igbeba Police Division at about 10:00 am. Our operatives immediately combed the area in search of the suspects. Efforts are in top gear to arrest everyone involved in the crime,” she said.
Odutola added that the survivors had been taken to the school clinic for treatment.
“In the meantime, the survivors have been taken to the school clinic for treatment,” she added.
“The police are continuing their search for the suspects, and the investigation is ongoing.”
