Police rescue 10 pregnant women in Akwa-Ibom

The Akwa-Ibom police command said it rescued ten expectant mothers and from a baby factory allegedly operated by Eunice Eze, a 56 year-old suspect in the state.

Waheed Ayilara, commissioner of police in the state, said this at the police headquarters, Ikot Akpanabia in Uyo, the state capital, before journalists on Tuesday.

Ayilara said that the suspect, known for managing an illegal baby factory in World Bank estate in Owerri, was taken into custody on July 15 after the command received credible information.

“On July 15 at about 4:30pm, based on actionable intelligence, Mrs Eunice Eze ‘f’ age 56yrs was arrested for running a baby factory at World Bank Estate in Owerri,” NAN quoted Ayilara as saying.

“The suspect specialises in stealing babies and pregnant women from Akwa Ibom through her agent, Ability Tom.

The commissioner said that a wanted kidnapper was apprehended in the state, adding that the suspect was part of a gang responsible for a string of kidnappings and fatalities in the area.

According to the commissioner, the firearms used by the kidnapper and his syndicate were found and recovered at a private mortuary in Ekeya, Okobo LGA, that was being utilized as a hidden arsenal.

“The police recovered two AK-47 Rifles, two G3 Rifles, one double barrel Rifle, five magazines and seven live ammunition,” he said.

Ayilara expressed gratitude to the state government, sister security agencies, and the public for their support and timely information.

He added that the command looks forward to continued collaboration to maintain peace and safety in Akwa Ibom.
