- The suspension was announced in a statement by the State Disciplinary Committee’s Chairman
The Cross River State chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Mr. Ogar Osim, has been suspended amid accusations of embezzlement and anti-party activities.
Mr. Osim, also accused of failing to maintain a state secretariat, was suspended alongside the State Secretary, Mr. Felix Etim, on Tuesday.
The suspension was announced in a statement by the State Disciplinary Committee’s Chairman, Bonnie Adie, and Secretary, Ibiang Igri. They named Eugene Obia and Allen Ekpe as acting Chairman and Secretary, respectively, until a congress elects new officials.
The statement cited a thorough investigation into allegations of gross misconduct, embezzlement, and other serious issues as the basis for the suspension. The committee expressed confidence in the interim leaders and urged party members to support them.
However, Mr. Osim dismissed his suspension as laughable, claiming those who signed the suspension letter are unknown to the Labour Party and are impostors.
