A source within the agency confirmed the news, noting that Professor Junaidu appeared healthy and showed no signs of illness prior to his death

The Executive Secretary of the National Education Research Development Council (NERDC), Professor Ismail Junaidu, has passed away.

A source within the agency confirmed the news, noting that Professor Junaidu appeared healthy and showed no signs of illness prior to his death.

Speaking to Daily Trust, the source described his death as sudden, stating that he passed away in the early hours of Thursday in Damaturu, Yobe State, where he was attending a Joint Consultative Committee on Education (JCCE) programme.

“He did not slump; death just happened,” the official remarked.

Although details surrounding his death remain unclear, another source, speaking anonymously, claimed that Professor Junaidu slumped and died. This claim was later refuted by an NERDC official.

Professor Junaidu’s body is being transported to Katsina for burial later on Thursday.

Born on 3rd June 1953, Professor Junaidu held a PhD in Linguistics from the University of Indiana, USA, a Master’s Degree from the University of York, England, and a Bachelor’s Degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Nigeria.
