- In February, the anti-graft agency said it impounded 12 trucks containing some illegally mined solid minerals in Kwara.
- The EFCC added that the solid minerals were being transported outside the country to the detriment of the Nigerian economy.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says its operatives have arrested 13 suspected illegal miners in Abuja.
In a statement on Friday, the agency said illegal miners were nabbed in the Asokoro area of Abuja in an operation on Wednesday.
The EFCC said the suspects were taken into custody after operatives acted on credible intelligence.
“The suspects were intercepted and arrested following credible intelligence linking them with the transportation of tons of coal and kaolin in five trucks from Nassarawa State to a site in Kaduna State,” the statement said.
“They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.”
