- Governor Peter Mbah aims to generate over N100 billion from livestock production, enhancing farmers’ capacity and stimulating the economy
- The inauguration of the first Regional Enugu Model Veterinary Hospital will support livestock health, productivity, and economic growth in the state
Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has announced an ambitious target of over N100 billion from livestock production and processing to stimulate the economy, enhance farmers’ capacity in animal husbandry, and strengthen the agricultural value chain.
Speaking on Monday during a visit from the Livestock Productivity and Resilience Support Project (L-PRES) delegation, led by National Project Coordinator Sanusi Abubakar, Governor Mbah highlighted the economic potential and job creation prospects of the state’s new initiatives. The delegation was in Enugu for the inauguration of the first Regional Enugu Model Veterinary Hospital.
Governor Mbah emphasized the importance of the Enugu State Ranch Management Agency Law in unlocking economic opportunities, creating jobs in the livestock sector, and increasing the state’s GDP from $4.4 billion to $30 billion. “We saw that we needed to start putting in a robust policy or a legal framework that can support these policies. We’re aware that Enugu has a market size of over N100 billion, and we are quite ambitious in the growth projection of our GDP. Enugu has enough capacity to produce enough meat and dairy products for export, which would require skills in processing and packaging,” he said.
He assured investors of the security of lives, property, and investments and encouraged them to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the new ranch law, the veterinary hospital, and the partnership with L-PRES.
Earlier, L-PRES Coordinator Abubakar stated that the veterinary hospital, once completed, would perform disease surveillance, eradication, and animal vaccination, significantly contributing to the health and productivity of livestock in the state.
