- The attackers threw stones at the vehicle, breaking windows and stealing the food items
Over 100 hoodlums attacked a Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) bus loaded with palliatives in Cross River State.
The bus, carrying food items from a government warehouse in Calabar, was en route to the NUJ Secretariat when it was ambushed.
The attackers threw stones at the vehicle, breaking windows and stealing the food items.
The bus driver, Joseph Akpaenin, suffered a bruised shoulder and had his phone stolen. He managed to escape when the bus’s trunk flung open, diverting the mob’s attention to the falling bags of rice and garri.
The attack also left Tribune reporter Joseph Abasi-Abasi and NUJ auxiliary staff Saviour Ekpenyong with severe injuries.
They are currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed medical facility.
