Sa’adatu Garba Dogonbauchi, a Federal Commissioner representing Kaduna State in the National Population Commission (NPC), emphasized the necessity of an accurate census for the effectiveness of the current administration’s initiatives. In a statement issued on Tuesday, Dogonbauchi noted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s efforts to improve living conditions in Nigeria have been hampered by outdated census data.
Dogonbauchi highlighted the importance of accurate population figures in making governmental efforts more impactful. She called on youths to postpone the planned strike and exercise patience, allowing the President time to address the nation’s issues. She also appealed to President Tinubu to prioritize urgently conducting a census.
“For example, he (Tinubu) has strengthened security, freeing about 4,600 hostages and arresting over 7,000 terrorists and bandits. He has also made significant strides in boosting agriculture through consumer credit schemes, agricultural mechanization, and releasing tons of grains for distribution,” Dogonbauchi stated.
She argued that the people do not fully feel the positive impacts of these initiatives due to the lack of accurate population data, with the last census conducted 18 years ago. Dogonbauchi stressed that conducting a census is crucial for economic growth and development and urged the President to ensure it is done promptly.
