One protester has been reportedly injured as police fired tear gas on August 1 hardship protesters in Eagle Square, Abuja.

According to a video posted by Galaxy TV, protesters were dispersed from converging at the venue.

The protesters are marching towards the Three-Arm Zone of the Federal Capital Territory.

The protesters had earlier gathered in MKO Abiola Stadium.

The same situation was reported in Port Harcourt, Rivers, Lagos, Sokoto and other states across Nigeria.

Economic activities in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT came to a standstill on Thursday following the commencement of the protest.

The ever-busy Berger Bridge and other places see a few vehicular movements. Banks and other financial institutions were also closed due to fear of attacks by hoodlums who may hijack the demonstration.

The popular Utako market was shut down, with several shops and plazas under lock and key.
