Kebbi: Businessman shot dead during protest

In Kebbi state, a businessman has been shot dead in the ongoing nationwide protest.

The deceased was said to have been hit by a stray bullet in Yauri local government area of the State.

The deceased was reportedly hit by the bullet while he was in his shop selling plastics.

Malam Umar Bako Yelwa, a local, confirmed the incident to newsmen, saying the the bullet was fired by marine police near the Yauri River.

Speaking with the Vanguard, Yelwa stated that the protest escalated when demonstrators blocked the federal highway, causing a major disruption to traffic entering Yauri town.

In an attempt to disperse the crowd, marine police reportedly fired shots, resulting in a stray bullet fatally wounding the plastic seller whose identity is yet to be ascertained.

The Kebbi police spokesperson, SP Nafiu Abubakar, has not issued a statement regarding the issue.

Meanwhile, the situation in the state capital, Birnin Kebbi, remains calm following the protests that have affected various parts of the town
