  • It demands that Igbo leave the region within a month and announces an #IgboMustGo protest scheduled from August 20 to 30

The apex Igbo socio-cultural body, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, plans to meet Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and leaders of the pan-Yoruba group Afenifere following a ‘quit notice’ issued to Igbo residents in Lagos and other parts of the South-West.

The notice, which emerged from a post by an X/Twitter user, Lagospedia, on July 27, demands that Igbo leave the region within a month and announces an #IgboMustGo protest scheduled from August 20 to 30.

Amid the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests, Ohanaeze Ndigbo is taking the threat seriously due to fears that it may incite attacks on Igbo in Lagos and the South-West.

According to The Whistler, an unnamed member of the Ime-Obi, the decision-making body of Ohanaeze, stated that the organization will send a delegation to engage Governor Sanwo-Olu and Afenifere leaders, seeking assurances for the safety of Igbo residents.

“We are not taking this threat lightly,” the source said. “We want the Lagos Government and Afenifere leaders to guarantee the safety of Igbos in Lagos and the entire South-West.”

Efforts to get official comments from Ohanaeze spokesman Chief Alex Ogbonnia were unsuccessful. However, the Ohanaeze Ndigbo Youth Council Worldwide has warned that any attack on Igbo will be resisted. National President Mazi Okwu Nnabuike emphasized that the Igbo are prepared to defend themselves, questioning why they are being targeted despite opting out of the protests.
