- Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, also praised Governor Mbah for his leadership in driving development in Enugu
Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State and Minister of Works Dave Umahi have praised South-East residents for avoiding the ongoing nationwide protests against economic hardship in Nigeria.
Their remarks came during an inspection tour of various road projects in the state, including the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, Enugu-Abakaliki Road, and Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway, undertaken by both federal and state governments.
Speaking to reporters in Enugu, Governor Mbah commended the South-East residents for preventing the loss of lives, businesses, and property by choosing not to participate in the protests. “I also want to take the opportunity to commend our people greatly for heeding our call to shun the protests and go about their business. We commend them highly because they understand the value of hard work,” Mbah stated. He urged residents to exercise patience with federal government policies, which he believes are well-intentioned and will yield benefits over time.
Minister Umahi echoed Mbah’s sentiments, highlighting the significant statement made by the South-East and Igbo community across Nigeria by not joining the protests. “We are not going to protest. We want proper integration in the affairs of this country. Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Mr President, started it by giving an Igbo man the minister of works and appointing an Igbo man as a service chief, among others,” Umahi said. He emphasized the infrastructural developments in the South-East under Tinubu’s administration and questioned the need for protests against a president who has provided unprecedented opportunities for the region.
Umahi, a former governor of Ebonyi State, also praised Governor Mbah for his leadership in driving development in Enugu and acknowledged other states and governors who refrained from protesting.
