- Weighing in on the matter on Tuesday, Sani said impeaching Akpabio is a risky endeavour but it can be done.
Shehu Sani, a former Kaduna Central Senator, has suggested to senators how they can remove Senate President, Godswill Akpabio.
Since his emergence as the number three citizen, Akpabio has been dogged by controversies and scandals and he has come under fire on many occasions for what many deemed his lack of tack on issues of national significance and also his insensitivity on matters that affect the citizens.
He is also seen by many as a stooge of the executive owing to his pliant and obsequious disposition to the president Bola Tinubu administration.
The aforementioned scenarios have prompted calls for his impeachment and resignation.
Weighing in on the matter on Tuesday, Sani said impeaching Akpabio is a risky endeavour but it can be done.
To remove the him, Sani said a senator must initiate Akpabio’s impeachment by consulting his colleagues and garnering enough numbers to push for his impeachment.
He, however, warned that such a senator would be suspended till the next election if the plot backfired.
Posting on X, Sani wrote: “Removing Akpabio is only possible if a Senator consults his colleagues and gets enough votes to initiate an impeachment.
“If the plot fails, the Senator may go on suspension till the next election. That is it.”
This is coming after a popular activist, Aisha Yesufu called for Akpabio’s impeachment following his comment before the commencement of the EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest.
Yesufu has said: “Dear Senators. “It is time to impeach Godswill Akpabio. It is still one of you that will replace him as Senate President.”
Her remark came as Akpabio said they would be eating while aggrieved Nigerians hit the streets to protest against President Bola Tinubu
