The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has issued a stern warning to individuals and groups plotting to overthrow the government or engage in any form of unconstitutional regime change.
During a joint press conference with top security officials and military leaders, Musa emphasized that the military and security agencies are actively working to identify and hold accountable those responsible for instigating unrest and violence.
Musa expressed appreciation for the understanding and cooperation of Nigerians in upholding law and order, and assured them that the military is committed to protecting the country and its citizens.
He emphasized that the military’s focus is on those who seek to subvert the nation, not innocent citizens.
He called for collaboration and cooperation among all agencies to achieve success and promote national unity and cohesion.
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, provided updates on the military’s efforts to restore peace and security, highlighting the army’s commitment to combating protests and riots while maintaining its focus on fighting terrorism and banditry.
He noted positive indicators of returning peace and stability in areas like Borno state.
The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Emmanuel Ogalla, reaffirmed the navy’s dedication to ensuring safety and security in the maritime domain, particularly in the Niger Delta, where operations have resulted in increased oil production and revenue.
The military, including the Air Force, remains committed to defending the country’s territorial integrity and ensuring national security and stability.
The joint press conference demonstrated the collaborative efforts of the military and security agencies, with presentations from the Chiefs of army, navy, air force, and Defence, as well as the Inspector-General of Police and representative of the Director-General of the Department of State Service.
Other attendees included the Comptroller-General of Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller-General of Nigeria Immigration Service, and Commander-General of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
