- She highlighted the state’s recent improvements in its nutritional index, attributing this progress to investments in health care
Dr Nonye Soludo, wife of the Anambra State governor, has launched a natural, ready-to-use baby food called ‘Nonye Healthy Living Pap’ aimed at tackling child malnutrition in the state.
The unveiling took place at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre in Awka.
Soludo explained that the initiative, part of the ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative,’ seeks to support children with special nutritional needs and complement existing government efforts to combat malnutrition.
She highlighted the state’s recent improvements in its nutritional index, attributing this progress to investments in health care and campaigns promoting exclusive breastfeeding.
Soludo shared that the initiative was inspired by a meeting with UNICEF, which highlighted the malnutrition challenges in Anambra. This spurred her to take action, recognizing the potential for long-term impact through the project.
The ‘Nonye Healthy Living Pap’ is designed to provide essential nutrients to children suffering from malnutrition. Made from groundnut, corn, and soya beans, the pap is rich in carbohydrates, healthy fats, fibre, protein, zinc, and vitamins B1, B2, B3, and iron.
Soludo emphasized the importance of healthy living as a foundation for a productive society and noted that the initiative aims to reduce under-five mortality rates in the state.
The launch event was attended by women and community members from all 21 local government areas, as well as Yoruba and Hausa community leaders. Hajia Khadijat Olahan, Women Leader of the Yoruba community and Muslim Women in Anambra, praised the initiative for addressing children’s nutritional needs and promoting their well-being.
