- The group urged patience and respect for the current leadership during this transitional period
Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has refuted claims of a leadership tussle within the group following the recent passing of its President-General, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu.
The National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Alex Ogbonnia, clarified in Enugu on Friday that such rumors circulating in the media are baseless.
“There is no leadership row or tussle in Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide at present, and there is not likely to be one shortly,” Ogbonnia asserted. He emphasized that the group’s National Executive Committee (NEC), made up of distinguished scholars, technocrats, and veterans, is effectively managing the organization’s affairs.
Ogbonnia also dismissed speculation surrounding a letter claiming Dr. Jackson Omenazu had been nominated to replace the late Deputy President General, Joel Kroham. He noted that the NEC had not received such a letter and that it would be inappropriate to make any decisions regarding leadership replacements before Iwuanyanwu’s burial committee is even constituted.
He further stated that while Omenazu is entitled to pursue his ambitions for the president-general position in January 2025, it should not be done in a manner that discredits Ohanaeze Ndigbo. Ogbonnia urged patience and respect for the current leadership during this transitional period.
