  • Senator Ireti Kingibe pledged to ensure the Federal Capital Territory receives equitable treatment and resources comparable to Nigeria’s 36 states
  • Kingibe initiated cash transfers and empowerment programs for vulnerable constituents, emphasizing the need for public awareness of her efforts

Senator Ireti Kingibe, representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has pledged to ensure that the FCT receives fair and equal treatment comparable to the 36 states of Nigeria. On Saturday, Senator Kingibe emphasized that the FCT has not been treated equitably in the past and vowed to use her position as the highest representative of the people to secure the capital territory’s fair share of resources and opportunities.

Senator Kingibe, who has initiated another round of palliative measures through direct cash transfers to vulnerable constituents, mentioned that she had previously kept her empowerment initiatives private. However, she now believes that publicizing these efforts is necessary to inspire others to empower their constituents similarly.

“Over the past year, we have quietly made a difference in numerous communities, and the feedback has been overwhelming,” she said, referring to her empowerment activities. Recently, she provided over a thousand constituents with sewing machines and cash to help them start businesses, which has received positive feedback from the beneficiaries.

As the sole senator representing the FCT, Kingibe’s goal is to ensure the territory receives its fair share of resources and opportunities. She noted that the FCT has often been overlooked in the allocation of quotas for employment, education, and empowerment programs, despite receiving disproportionate funding.

Senator Kingibe expressed her commitment to advocating for policies that guarantee the FCT’s inclusion and fair treatment, ensuring its residents have equal access to opportunities and benefits. She is dedicated to attracting as much support as possible for the people of the FCT, empowering individuals, communities, and the territory to achieve self-sufficiency.

Kingibe promised to continue working tirelessly to drive positive change and ensure the FCT receives the support it deserves. “I believe that by doing so, we can create a strong and better all-inclusive future for all residents of the FCT, and make Abuja the dream place for everyone,” she concluded.
