The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, emphasized that Nigeria’s democratic institutions, values, and principles are the cornerstone of the nation, and it is the constitutional duty of the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other military branches to protect and uphold them.

Speaking over the weekend in Gombe during a meeting with the State Governor, Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya, Air Marshal Abubakar noted that while the primary responsibility for security lies with State Governors, the Armed Forces and other security agencies are committed to supporting them in safeguarding the freedoms and rights of all Nigerians as enshrined in the constitution. He stressed the importance of ensuring that the rule of law is respected and maintained in Gombe State.

Air Marshal Abubakar praised Governor Yahaya for his significant achievements in Gombe State, highlighting his dedication to infrastructural development, healthcare improvement, and the advancement of educational standards. According to Abubakar, these efforts have led to substantial progress and improved quality of life for the residents while also making Gombe State a top destination for ease of doing business in Nigeria for two consecutive years.

Addressing the recent unrest in the state, Air Marshal Abubakar stated that the protests, which were initially peaceful, were unfortunately hijacked by malicious elements, necessitating enhanced security measures. In response, the NAF deployed an aircraft for surveillance over Gombe metropolis and other areas, while the Regiment Forces collaborated with other security services to restore order.

Governor Yahaya acknowledged the nation’s challenges but commended the NAF and other security agencies for their dedication to tackling security challenges. This has allowed citizens to continue their daily activities with reduced threats. He specifically praised the NAF’s 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group for its quick and effective response to the looting and theft during the recent protests.

Governor Yahaya also assured Air Marshal Abubakar of his government’s commitment to providing necessary infrastructure support to the 109 Combat Reconnaissance Group to enhance operational effectiveness.
