  • This abduction follows closely on the heels of a recent attack on a police checkpoint

At least three people have been reportedly abducted by unidentified assailants along the Nkpologwu-Akpo Road in Nkpologwu, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The incident, which occurred early on Sunday, remains shrouded in uncertainty. Reports indicate that the armed attackers kidnapped the three men at different locations within the community.

This abduction follows closely on the heels of a recent attack on a police checkpoint at Omata junction along the Nnewi Oba Road, where a police officer was killed just two days earlier.

A video currently circulating on social media appears to corroborate the kidnapping. The footage shows a vehicle that had somersaulted along the Nkpologwu-Akpo Road, which, according to a voiceover in the video, belonged to one of the abducted victims.

A local community leader, who requested anonymity due to safety concerns, confirmed the incident to journalists. He explained that the gunmen invaded the area around 7:30 am and abducted the victims from their vehicles.

“Two of the victims, including a lawyer, reside in Abuja, while the third victim is based in Port Harcourt. The assailants ambushed their vehicles along the Nkpologwu-Akpo Road and took them to an unknown location. One of the victims’ vehicles somersaulted during the chase and remains on the road,” the community leader stated.

The President-General of the Nkpologwu Community, Prof. Ferdinand Ezeiruaku, also confirmed the abduction, noting that the victims had just returned to the community to attend an event organized by the women as part of their August meeting.

As of now, the suspected kidnappers have not contacted the families of the victims to demand a ransom.

When reached for comment, the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, said he could not yet confirm the incident but promised to make further inquiries.
