- The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson
The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested a 58-year-old man, Shuaibu Isiaka, for allegedly defrauding a victim of N17 million under the false pretense of having close ties with the state governor.
According to reports, Isiaka deceived the victim into believing that he could secure a contract from the Nasarawa State Government, leading the victim to hand over the large sum of money.
The arrest was confirmed in a statement released on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Ramhan Nansel. The statement revealed that the arrest followed a petition filed against Isiaka, who allegedly obtained the money under false pretenses.
“Police operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department of the Nasarawa State Police Command have arrested Shuaibu Isiaka, also known as Ziko, a 58-year-old resident of Tudun Gwandara, Lafia, for name-dropping the Executive Governor of Nasarawa State and defrauding an unsuspecting member of the public to the tune of Seventeen Million Naira (#17,000,000),” the statement read.
During interrogation, Isiaka admitted to the crime but claimed that the amount he received from the victim was N14 million, not N17 million as alleged.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered a thorough investigation into the case and directed investigators to pursue anyone connected to the crime, regardless of their status.
CP Nadada also cautioned the public to be vigilant and wary of individuals who use the names of prominent people to deceive and defraud others.
