The recent protests were marred by allegations of excessive force by security operatives, resulting in the tragic death of a young protester in Zaria, Kaduna state.

The NYCN president, Sukubo Sara-Igbe Sukubo, announced the cancellation, citing deep concern over the economic hardship and hunger affecting millions of Nigerians.
The organization said it prioritized addressing these pressing issues over celebratory events.
The NYCN said it has submitted a comprehensive policy paper to key stakeholders, outlining recommendations to alleviate economic hardship and empower Nigerian youth in national security.
The proposals include a national youth conference, economic relief measures, and skill development initiatives.
The NYCN appealed to President Bola Tinubu to consider and implement these proposals, stressing the need for swift action to address economic challenges and restore hope for Nigerian youth and citizens.
It added that timely action will significantly improve the lives of Nigerians, according to the organization.
