- The National Youth Service Corps has invalidated the national service certificates of 101 UNICAL graduates due to fraudulent mobilization
- NYSC emphasized its commitment to ensuring only qualified individuals receive certificates, urging verification of authenticity by employers and stakeholders
The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has accused the University of Calabar (UNICAL) of fraudulently mobilizing 101 graduates for national service during the 2021, 2022, and 2023 NYSC Service Years.
In a statement issued by the NYSC management, it was revealed that 99 of the 101 individuals were graduates, while two had been placed on exemption. The NYSC announced that the certificates of national service issued to these individuals are being invalidated immediately.
The NYSC reiterated its commitment to ensuring that only qualified Nigerian youths, whether trained locally or abroad, are recognized and issued with NYSC certificates. The statement emphasized that graduates from unaccredited universities or those who do not meet the necessary qualifications will not be mobilized for national service.
The NYSC also urged employers, government ministries, departments, agencies, corporate bodies, and other stakeholders to verify the authenticity of NYSC certificates, exemption letters, and exclusion letters directly with the NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja before accepting them for any official purpose.
As of the time of this report, the University of Calabar had not officially responded to the NYSC’s allegations.
