The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) director-general, YD Ahmed, applauded corps members for their contributions to Nigeria’s development.
He recognized their efforts in a statement on International Youth Day 2024.
Ahmed urged corps members to acquire skills that would enable them to become self-sufficient.
This aligns with the government’s goal of promoting entrepreneurship and job creation.
The NYSC has equipped over 3.5 million corps members with skills and knowledge, leading to numerous positive outcomes.
The scheme has also established partnerships with institutions to provide funding for corps members to start their own businesses.
Ahmed highlighted the success of the NYSC’s skill acquisition program, which has transformed many corps members into successful business owners.
He emphasized the importance of security awareness and caution among corps members.
The NYSC has gained international recognition, with Nigeria invited to share ideas at the 2024 International Youth Exchange Programme in India.
Tanzania has also expressed interest in replicating the NYSC model, with Nigeria offering support and guidance.
