- The National Assembly had previously approved a 300 percent salary increase for judicial officers
President Bola Tinubu has signed the Judicial Office Holders Salaries and Allowances Bill into law, marking a significant increase in the remuneration of judicial officers at both federal and state levels.
The Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, announced the signing in a statement on Tuesday in Abuja.
The National Assembly had previously approved a 300 percent salary increase for judicial officers, following the consideration of an executive bill transmitted by the President.
The bill, titled “A Bill for an Act to Prescribe the Salaries, Allowances and Fringe Benefits of Judicial Office Holders in Nigeria and for Related Matters,” seeks to update the remuneration and benefits for judicial officers in line with current economic realities.
It also amends the Certain Political, Public, and Judicial Office Holders (Salaries and Allowances, etc.) Act, No.6, 2002, to remove provisions related to judicial officers from that law.
Lado highlighted the importance of this move, noting that it reflects President Tinubu’s prioritization of the welfare of Nigerian workers.
He also linked this development to the President’s recent decision to sign the new National Minimum Wage Bill of N70,000.
In his statement, Lado described the signing as a landmark achievement, demonstrating the President’s dedication to ensuring that all Nigerian workers, particularly those in critical roles, receive fair compensation.
