VIDEO: Lagos Cracks Down On Illegal Styrofoam Storage

aims to maintain a hygienic pleasing environment in the state.

The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) has seized a large quantity of styrofoam at a warehouse in the Idumota area of the state.

LAGESC is an agency responsible for promoting a cleaner environment through enforcement and regulation of environmental sanitation practices, as well as educating and prosecuting offenders to maintain a hygienic pleasing environment in the state.

On January 21, the Lagos government announced a ban on the usage and distribution of styrofoam and other single-use plastics across the state.

Also, on June 25, the federal government placed a ban on single-use plastics in all ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) to address the growing plastic pollution in the country.

In a post on X on Tuesday, Tokunbo Wahab, the Lagos state commissioner for environment and water resources, said operatives from the ministry have taken the styrofoam packs for burning.

“Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) discovered a styrofoam packs warehouse in Idumota,” the post reads.

“The product has been confiscated and taken to the Taskforce Office for incineration.”
