The federal government has introduced a mobile application named “Mobiliser,” designed for Nigerian youths to report crimes and criminal activities directly from their phones.
According to the government, this app will enable security agencies, including the Nigerian Police, the military, and other operatives, to quickly respond, track down criminals, and ensure justice is served.
Issa Lanre-Onilu, the Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), announced this Wednesday at the National Counter-Terrorism Centre (NCTC) in Abuja during a meeting with media executives and senior editors. The centre’s National Coordinator, Maj Gen Adamu Laka, organised the meeting.
The government’s introduction of the Mobiliser app follows closely after youths nationwide participated in the #EndBadGovernance protests.
During the meeting, the NOA DG, represented by the Director of Press, Paul Odenyi, emphasized that if Nigerian youths were more aware of the government’s numerous beneficial programs, they would be more inclined to support these initiatives and avoid engaging in violence.
“We understand the importance of involving the youth in all our programs. I want to take this opportunity to inform you that at the National Orientation Agency, we now have an app called ‘Mobiliser,’ where Nigerian youths can report crimes and criminal activities directly,” he stated.
Earlier, Maj Gen Laka, the National Coordinator of NCTC, highlighted the crucial role of the media as partners in combating terrorism and other violent crimes. He stressed the need for the media and security agencies to work harmoniously for effective crime prevention and response.
