Develop Teachers to Safeguard the Nation’s Future – UBEC Boss

UBEC Calls for Prioritizing Teacher Development to Secure Nigeria's Educational Future

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi

Dr. Hamid Bobboyi, the Executive Secretary of the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC), has urged the government and relevant stakeholders to prioritize the welfare and development of teachers to ensure a secure future for the country.

Speaking during a keynote address at a six-day training program for School Support Officers (SSOs) on SMASSE (Strengthening Mathematics and Science Education) and Jolly Phonics, organized by the Kano State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) for teachers across the 44 local government areas, Bobboyi emphasized the vital role teachers play in the educational system.

“Teachers are fundamental to our education system,” Bobboyi stated. “We must ensure they possess the necessary competence to foster a robust educational framework that nurtures our children, who are the future of our country. Without a strong focus on developing our teachers, we risk compromising the future of our nation.”

He pointed to examples from countries like Singapore, where teachers are highly valued and receive the highest salaries. He cautioned that neglecting teachers would be akin to neglecting future generations. “We must resist this neglect. Our country cannot progress until we secure the future of our teachers so they can, in turn, develop future generations,” Bobboyi warned.

Yusuf Kabir, the Executive Chairman of Kano SUBEB, supported Bobboyi’s remarks, highlighting the board’s efforts to rejuvenate the educational system. Kabir mentioned that the board has invested in new teaching and learning materials and is committed to regular school monitoring to improve the quality of education.
