Russian engineers begin technical audit at Ajaokuta steel plant

Authorities confirmed the development on Friday

A team of 23 Russian engineers, who originally built the Ajaokuta Steel Company, has arrived in Kogi State to conduct a technical audit of the facility.

Authorities confirmed the development on Friday, releasing a photo of the engineers at the site.

The team, working with local engineers, will assess areas needing upgrades and replace outdated analog systems with modern digital equipment.

This initiative is seen as a significant step toward completing the long-stalled project and revitalizing Nigeria’s steel industry.

Speaking to the Nigerian Television Authority, the plant’s sole administrator, Sumaila Abdul-Akaba, stated, “The team has inspected key units, including the thermal power plant, light mills section, and oxygen plant.”
