- The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission has not released primary election results, causing concern among political parties and citizens statewide
- PLASIEC assures the public that results will be announced once compiled, urging citizens to disregard unauthorized documents claiming otherwise
The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has yet to announce the results of the primary elections held on Thursday across the state’s 17 local government areas.
Delegates from various political parties participated in the primaries, selecting candidates for the upcoming main elections, which PLASIEC oversaw. However, as of 4:30 PM on Saturday, the anticipated results had not been released, causing widespread concern throughout the state.
The commission confirmed the delay and assured the public that the results would be made public once ready. PLASIEC’s Media Officer, Koro Yakubu, stated that results from the 17 local governments are still being compiled.
“There is no need for alarm,” Yakubu said. “Once all primaries are concluded, PLASIEC will upload the results from participating political parties for public access.”
Yakubu also addressed the unauthorized use of the commission’s logo to spread false results, warning that such actions undermine the electoral process’s integrity. “PLASIEC remains the only authority responsible for announcing official election results,” Yakubu emphasized.
The commission urged the public to disregard any unofficial documents circulating with the PLASIEC logo and called on the citizens of Plateau State to unite to safeguard democracy and ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
