- Thierry Henry resigns as head coach of France Under-21 team, citing personal reasons, after leading them to an Olympic silver medal
- FFF president Philippe Diallo expresses gratitude for Henry’s contributions, highlighting his professionalism and success during his tenure with the team
Thierry Henry has resigned as head coach of the France Under-21 team. The French Football Federation (FFF) announced his departure on Monday, citing “personal reasons” for his decision.
Henry had been under contract with the FFF until June 2025, which would have included leading the team through the Under-21 European Championship in Slovakia. The 47-year-old also recently guided the France Under-23 squad to an Olympic silver medal at the Paris Games, where they were defeated 5-3 by Spain in the final.
FFF president Philippe Diallo expressed his gratitude for Henry’s contributions, saying, “On behalf of the FFF, I would like to thank Thierry Henry for all his work as the head of the Espoirs and Olympiques teams. We regret this decision because Thierry Henry achieved his objectives by winning a silver medal at the Paris Olympics, 40 years after the Olympic medal in Los Angeles.”
Diallo also praised Henry’s professionalism, dedication, and passion for the French national team and wished him success in his future endeavours.
Henry took over the France U-21 side in August 2023, following a stint as an assistant coach for the Belgium national team. His coaching experience also includes roles in the Arsenal youth academy and head coaching positions at CF Montreal and AS Monaco.
