A ghastly road accident in Ogun State has claimed four lives and left others with varying degrees of injuries.
The incident happened at Enugada area of Lafenwa in Abeokuta around 8:30 pm on Thursday.
The accident involved a truck with registration number AAA 86 XX, which rammed into two commercial motorcycles registered as DE 968 V and AAB 387 VP, and also a Honda CRV marked EKY 857 GU.
No sooner had the mishap happened than the driver and the motor boy of the truck disappeared and are yet to be found.
The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident
personnel of the agency were reportedly seen evacuating victims, clearing road obstruction and managing traffic at the scene.
The TRACE Public Relations Officer, Babatunde Akinbiyi attributed the cause to brake failure while the truck was descending from Itoku enroute Enugada, Lafenwa.
He said: “According to eyewitness account, the truck developed a brake failure (mechanical) while descending from Itoku enroute Ago-Oba towards Enugada, Lafenwa, and rammed into two motorcycles and a Honda CRV, killing the 2 motorcyclists and the two passengers they were both carrying, while the driver of the Honda CRV car was injured.
“Initially, six were presumed dead, including the injured Honda CRV driver and a pedestrian but they were revived due to the efforts of the 1st responders and members of the public who gathered at the scene of the crash.”
Akinbiyi noted that the bodies of the victims and the injured were deposited at a hospital whose identity would be released later.
He urged motorists to service their vehicles as at when due and ensure that major mechanical components were in good working condition before setting out on a journey.
