Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), the President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adopt the NBA’s digital election methods. He made this recommendation while unveiling the NBA’s digital stamp and seal for lawyers in Nigeria.
Maikyau highlighted the success of the NBA’s digital elections nationwide in July. Members voted electronically from their homes and offices during these elections, without any risk. He suggested that INEC study this method to learn how to conduct a seamless election process.
He emphasized the importance of embracing digital transformation, stating that the NBA cannot afford to be left behind as the world moves increasingly towards digital solutions. According to Maikyau, the new platform has been well-received by its users, who have praised its quality.
Adesina Adegbite, the NBA’s General Secretary, added that the new digital stamp and seal system guarantees the integrity of any document filed by a lawyer. He noted that the system has become a reality for NBA members, who can use this tool through a resourceful platform.
Ope Olusaga, CEO of LawPavilion and an expert in the field, explained that the NBA digital stamp and seal are secured with blockchain technology and integrated into Microsoft Word. This integration is part of the e-court system, which simplifies the process by allowing verified members to insert their e-stamp directly into Word documents seamlessly. The platform ensures transparency and authenticity and prevents the substitution or removal of any page from the filed documents.
