Manchester City boss, Pep Guardiola, has disclosed why the club decided to re-sign midfielder, Ilkay Gundogan, from Barcelona.
Man City had earlier on Friday confirmed that the Premier League champions had re-signed the Germany international from Barcelona.
Gundogan had left Guardiola’s side to join the La Liga side last year.
Speaking ahead of Man City’s Premier League tie with Ipswich Town on Saturday, Guardiola said at his pre-match press conference that the Cityzens brought Gundogan back to the club because the 33-year-old wanted to come back.
“The important thing is he wants to come back,” Guardiola said.
“I got the message from [director of football] Txiki [Begiristain] saying, ‘Ilkay wants to talk to you and call you’. I said ‘yes’ and now we are here and he has to deliver a good season.”
“The feeling is he doesn’t come to retire or to remember good memories. We have time to do that in the future. Now it’s time to put your shoes on and do your best.”
