- The NIA DG was appointed by the former President, Muhammadu Buhari.
The director general of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, has resigned from his position.
He submitted his resignation letter to President Bola Tinubu over the weekend.
The reasons behind Abubakar’s resignation are unclear at this time.
Abubakar holds degrees in French from Bayero University in Kano and is proficient in multiple languages, including English and Arabic.
A seasoned diplomat from Katsina state, Abubakar, 71, was appointed to lead the NIA by former President Muhammadu Buhari in 2018, with his term later extended in 2021.
He began his career in the Nigerian Foreign Service’s security department in 1993 and later served as a senior advisor to the president on international relations.
This is a developing story..
