Osun State governor, Ademola Adeleke
  • APC was accused of spreading “barefaced lies and fake news”

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the recent N1 billion donation made by Governor Ademola Adeleke and his siblings to the Cherubim and Seraphim Church in Lagos.

The APC expressed concern, saying the donation came at a time when Osun State is facing severe financial challenges.

According to the governor’s spokesman, Olawale Rasheed, the donation was announced by the governor’s elder brother, Dr. Deji Adeleke, during a church event in Lagos, as part of the Centenary Endowment Fund.

In a statement signed by its chairman, Mr. Tajudeen Lawal, the APC said the donation has sparked widespread outrage, with many questioning the decision to give away such a large sum while the state struggles with pressing financial obligations.

Lawal argued that spending such a significant amount on what he described as “frivolities” is morally questionable. He emphasized that while the APC is not against supporting religious groups, such contributions should be made with restraint and propriety.

“It is not far-fetched to suspect that the funds came from Osun State resources, which are being used inappropriately by Governor Adeleke and his family,” Lawal said. He also criticized the governor’s public conduct, questioning his focus on elaborate gestures rather than addressing urgent issues like the state’s unpaid minimum wage.

In response, Rasheed clarified that the N1 billion was donated solely by Dr. Deji Adeleke, with no connection to state funds. He accused the APC of spreading “barefaced lies and fake news” about the event, which was publicly streamed.
