Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai is spearheading an initiative to transform the technology landscape in Northern Nigeria. He is set to bring together technology enthusiasts, entrepreneurs, innovators, investors, and policymakers from across Africa to invest heavily in the region’s tech sector.
According to a statement shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Bello El-Rufai, one of El-Rufai’s sons, this effort will be showcased at the Arewa Tech Fest 2024, a major technology event scheduled to take place in Kano State from September 25 to 26. The event has received full support from the Kano State government and Governor Abba Yusuf Kabir.
The Arewa Tech Fest aims to highlight the latest advancements in technology and innovation, promote entrepreneurship, and encourage the development of digital solutions in Northern Nigeria. The festival is designed to foster a spirit of innovation and collaboration that can drive economic growth in the region.
Prominent figures expected to speak at the festival include the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Benedict Oramah, president of Afreximbank; Sumaila Zubairu, Chief Executive Officer of Africa Finance Corporation; and Amal Hassan, Founder of Outsource Global.
El-Rufai emphasized that the event is a milestone in showcasing Northern Nigeria’s technological and innovation potential. The festival aims to inspire and empower the next generation of tech leaders, especially women and youths, by providing them with the tools and resources needed to thrive in a rapidly evolving digital world.
In addition to the festival, the gathering will feature the launch of the Arewa Tech Fund, a financial initiative designed to provide crucial support to promising tech startups in Northern Nigeria. This fund aims to nurture and accelerate the growth of the region’s emerging tech ecosystem.
