The United Nigerians Against Crimes (UNAC) has expressed outrage and disappointment over the recent Supreme Court judgment on the Kogi State election dispute.
The group described it as a travesty of justice and a “betrayal of the people’s trust.”
In a statement by Abdullahi Yunusa Bayawo, director general of UNAC, the organization condemned the judgment as biased and unjust, citing its failure to address the core issues of the case and its reliance on extraneous matters.
Bayawo criticized the court’s ruling on the election’s timing and its characterization of criminal cases as pre-election matters, highlighting the inconsistency with its previous decision in the Bayelsa State case.
UNAC also denounced the court’s rejection of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) despite its earlier directive to proceed with its demonstration, seeing it as a disregard for technological advancements and a threat to electoral integrity.
The organization called for immediate action from the Federal Government to restructure the judiciary and prevent further miscarriages of justice.
Bayawo warned that the continuous disregard for the rule of law and democratic processes by some judges would lead to instability and chaos, and urged Nigerians to reject the judgment and demand a review.
He also called on individuals and organizations to join UNAC in its fight against injustice and for a fair and just society, emphasizing that judges would be held accountable for their actions.
