Troops from the 1 Division of the Nigerian Army killed a terrorist and uncovered a cache of weapons during a clearance operation in Kaduna State.
In a statement on Monday, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, said the operation took place on Sunday in the Sabon Birni, Dogon Dawa, Maidaro, Ngede Alpha, and Rafin Kaji areas of Kaduna.
“Troops of the 1 Division Nigerian Army, while conducting a clearance operation in these areas on 25 August 2024, encountered terrorists,” the statement read.
A gunfight ensued, leading to the death of one terrorist, while others escaped with what appeared to be gunshot wounds.
The troops recovered two motorcycles, four AK-47 magazines, a PKT belt with 86 rounds of ammunition, a Techno mobile phone, a Baofeng handheld radio, and an Airtel recharge card worth N5,000.
“In the firefight, troops overpowered and neutralized one terrorist while others fled with suspected injuries. The recovery included four AK-47 magazines—three fully loaded with a total of 60 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition—an empty magazine, and other items,” Yahaya stated.
Major General Mayirenso Saraso, Commander of Operation Whirl Punch and General Officer Commanding the 1 Division, commended the troops for their success. He urged them to intensify efforts to make life difficult for terrorists and their collaborators within the region.
