In a bid to promote fiscal accountability, the Kano state government has moved to consolidate its ministries’ and agencies’ accounts.
At a meeting at the Government House on Wednesday , Governor Abba Yusuf unveiled a sweeping financial reform initiative.
Citing a history of financial improprieties, the governor mandated the merger of all accounts into a single, transparent treasury account.
“The government has taken this step to ensure that funds are managed properly and to eliminate any avenues for financial misconduct,” he said.
The governor cautioned that non-compliance within a week would result in legal action against ministries or agencies.
Speaking at the gathering, Zayyid Abubakar, chairman of the Kano state internal revenue service (KIRS), introduced a revamped tax collection strategy aligned with the newly implemented unified treasury account system.
“This system will help increase revenue for Kano State and curb the misappropriation of government funds,”Abubakar said.
In attendence were high-ranking government officials, including Shehu Sagagi, the governor’s chief of staff, senior ministers, and representatives from the banking sector.
