  • Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya said this during a press briefing at the police headquarters in Ilorin on Friday

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested seven individuals linked to the alleged murder of Mojisola Awesu, a 21-year-old graduate of the Kwara State College of Health Technology.

Mojisola was reportedly invited to Ilorin, the state capital, by Adebayo Happiness, a dismissed student of Summit University, Offa, to act as his girlfriend at a party for a fee of ₦15,000. She was allegedly murdered in a hotel where she was lodged on Friday, August 9, 2024.

During a press briefing at the police headquarters in Ilorin on Friday, the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, revealed that the seven suspects arrested in connection with the case include Adebayo Happiness, the prime suspect, as well as his parents, Pastor Adebayo Adeniyi and Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi. Also arrested were Miss Kolawola Timileyin, who linked the deceased to the prime suspect, and three hotel workers: Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Amina, and Bulus Peter.

According to Commissioner Olaiya, after the murder, Happiness returned to Offa and concealed the victim’s phone in his hostel wardrobe. The police arrested his parents, who allegedly attempted to tamper with evidence by retrieving their son’s belongings from school. Mrs. Bukola Adeniyi was found to have removed the SIM card from Mojisola’s iPhone and concealed it in a wall near their home. Contrary to Happiness’ initial claim that he had thrown the phone into the Afelele River in Offa, both the iPhone and SIM card were recovered from his parents.

Further investigation revealed that hotel staff on duty found Mojisola’s body in the room and unlawfully disposed of it at a refuse dump.

Commissioner Olaiya stated that once the investigation is complete, the suspects will be charged in court to face the full extent of the law. He assured the public that the Kwara State Police Command remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining peace and security within the community. Further updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
