The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has issued a stern warning against unprovoked attacks on its officers, emphasizing that such actions will no longer be tolerated.
The Commandant of the FRSC Road Marshal Assistants School in Shendam, Plateau State, Yakubu Mohammad, made this clear on Friday during the closing ceremony of a one-week training programme for Marshal Assistants.
Mohammad stressed that the corps will not condone any further incidents of motorists deliberately knocking down road marshals while they are performing their duties. He urged motorists to adhere to traffic rules and cooperate with FRSC officers during patrols and rescue operations to prevent such dangerous encounters.
“Motorists should obey traffic rules and cooperate with the road marshals to prevent unprovoked knockdown involving the operatives during patrol or rescue operations, as this will no longer be tolerated by the corps,” he stated.
During the ceremony, Mohammad charged the 415 Marshal Assistants who completed the training to become agents of change within their respective commands. He encouraged them to apply the knowledge and skills they had acquired to act as good ambassadors of the FRSC.
The one-week training course was designed to enhance the professionalism and skills of the Road Marshal Assistants, equipping them with the necessary tools for effective service delivery. The course covered various areas including rescue operations, law enforcement, the use of technology, and maintaining discipline and integrity.
Earlier, the Corps Marshal, Sheu Mohammed, underscored the importance of continuous training and retraining for FRSC personnel to meet realistic expectations. He expressed confidence that the training had adequately prepared the Marshal Assistants to improve their performance in their duties.
The 415 Road Marshal Assistants who participated in the course were selected from various FRSC units across the country. The training, which began on August 25, concluded on Friday, August 30, 2024.
