Lagos State authorities have arrested nine people for engaging in open defecation in the Berger area, according to the state’s Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab.
In a post on social media platform X, Wahab confirmed the arrests, stating, “Nine individuals were arrested for open urination and defecation at Berger last night.”
This follows an earlier announcement that 17 others had been detained on Thursday night for similar offenses, including failing to use the pedestrian bridge.
The arrests are part of Lagos State’s broader initiative to enforce a zero-tolerance policy on open defecation, aimed at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment for residents.
The state’s Ministry of Environment and Water Resources has also begun a cleanup operation on the Ojodu-Berger highway median as part of its ongoing efforts to curb open defecation.
