- Nyesom Wike, the FCT Minister, expresses no regrets working under President Tinubu, despite being a PDP member in an APC government
- Wike warns PDP governors against interfering in Rivers State’s affairs, threatening to “put fire” in their states if they do
Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), has no regrets working under President Bola Tinubu. Wike, a long-standing member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) since 1999, is the only opposition member in Tinubu’s cabinet. He is also the leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Some have viewed Wike’s appointment as a reward for his alleged efforts against Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate in the last presidential election. Speaking at a PDP Congress in Rivers State, Wike expressed his satisfaction with his role in the current administration.
“We are fully in government, fully in Tinubu’s government. I have no regret, and I will continue to be there. Anybody who is angry should go and hug the transformer,” he stated.
Wike also criticized Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his former protégé, and other PDP governors who supported Fubara in a recent caucus meeting in Taraba. He warned these governors, saying, “Some governors say they will take the structure from us and give it to somebody. I hear they have assured them that they will take the party from us. I pity those governors because I will put fire in their states.”
He continued, “Whether you are in Bauchi or wherever, your hands will get burnt. You will never see peace again.”
Wike urged other party members to allow Rivers State to handle its affairs independently, criticizing those he claimed were moving to the Action Peoples Party (APP). He declared, “Let them wait during the time, they should face us in the election… we have thick skin.”
