- The PDP asserts that no individual is above the party, responding to Wike’s threats against governors interfering in party affairs
- PDP’s National Publicity Secretary confirms Wike will face a disciplinary committee for alleged anti-party activities and emphasizes party unity
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has stated that its governors will soon respond to the comments made by Nyesom Wike, the former Governor of Rivers State and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The party also emphasized that no individual is above the PDP, which belongs to the people.
This follows remarks made by Wike during the PDP congress in Rivers State on Saturday, where he warned PDP governors against interfering in party affairs within the state, threatening to “put fire in their states” if they tried to take control of the party’s structure in Rivers State.
Wike stated, “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody.”
In response, PDP National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Monday, stated, “What I can tell you is that nobody is above this party. It is the People’s Democratic Party.” He noted that Wike’s comments were directed at the governors, and they would respond at the appropriate time.
Ologunagba also addressed the party’s actions concerning Wike, stating, “What we have done is set up bodies (reconciliation and disciplinary committees) and given them the mandate to do the job. We will not tell them to do this or do that. We will wait for their report.”
