- Wike had threatened the party’s governors for supporting the state governor, Sim Fubara, saying he would “put fire” in the state of any governor interfering in the crisis in the State.
The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has said actions and remarks that undermine the stability of the party will not be tolerated.
The party said this in reaction to comments made by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, over the weekend.
Wike had threatened the party’s governors for supporting the state governor, Sim Fubara, saying he would “put fire” in the state of any governor interfering in the crisis in the State.
He stated that the governors attempting to take over his political structure in Rivers and give it Fubara will not know peace.
The minister and Fubara have been at loggerheads over control of Rivers State political structure.
Wike said: “Let me assure all of you, not while we live will anybody take away the structure of the PDP from us. But let me tell people, I hear some governors who say they will take over the structure and give it back to somebody.”
Reacting to Wike’s outburst at a press conference in Abuja, PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Depo Ologunagba, said no body was above the party.
He said: ”What I can tell you is that nobody is above this party. It is the Peoples Democratic Party.
“What we have done is set up bodies (reconciliation and disciplinary committees) and given them the mandate to do the job. We will wait for their report.
“What we know is that nobody is above this party, and we must take that to heart. It’s like justice: the wheel of justice grinds slowly but ultimately grinds well.
“We urge our governors to do what is necessary to ensure stability in their states. The only way they can achieve stability is through performance. If you compare PDP governors with governors from other parties, you will find that PDP governors are clearly oases of development.”
