- Governor Fubara urged police officers to remain non-partisan and uphold their professional ethics
Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to supporting the police in their mission to protect lives and property.
The governor made this pledge on Tuesday while presenting 100 patrol vehicles to the state police, according to a statement from his spokesperson, Nelson Chukwudi.
During the handover ceremony, Governor Fubara urged police officers to remain non-partisan and uphold their professional ethics. He advised them to conduct themselves in a manner that would ensure they and their families could feel safe and respected in the state long after their service.
“When you arrived in Rivers State, I made it clear that I would never ask you to do anything wrong. Your duty is to do what is right—protect the lives and property of Rivers State. Stay away from partisanship, as the consequences of such behavior will stay with you forever,” Fubara cautioned.
The governor emphasized that while politics may be temporary, the legacy of officers’ actions would endure. He reiterated his administration’s support for the police, insisting that their primary role is to safeguard the people of Rivers State without bias.
Governor Fubara also disclosed that the state government initially planned to provide high-profile vehicles for security agencies but, following the advice of the Commissioner of Police, opted for Toyota Camry, Sienna, and Corolla models.
In response, Commissioner of Police Olatunji Disu expressed gratitude for the governor’s “generous donation” and assured that the new vehicles would significantly enhance the police’s ability to respond swiftly and effectively to emergencies.
