Bauchi assembly probes in alleged homosexual meeting, summons Islamic scholar

...the cleric claimed that gays and lesbians from across Northern Nigeria gathered at a facility in Bauchi for a 10-day orientation.

The Bauchi State House of Assembly has ordered an urgent investigation into allegations of a secret meeting of homosexuals in Bauchi.

The assembly instructed the State Shari’ah Commission to accelerate its probe.

The move follows a viral video featuring Dr. Abdallah Usman Gadon-Kaya, an Islamic scholar from Kano, who claimed that a group of LGBTQ+ individuals from Northern Nigeria gathered in Bauchi for a 10-day event.

Although the cleric’s claims are unverified and lack specific details, a member of the Assembly, Dr. Nasiru Ahmed Ala, has called for the Shari’ah Commission to summon Dr. Gadon-Kaya to provide evidence and ensure that those involved are held accountable under Shari’ah law.

The Assembly’s Speaker, Abubakar Sulaiman, has affirmed the House’s constitutional authority to direct investigations and summon individuals to provide explanations on matters of public concern.
