- NANS remains committed to peaceful and constructive dialogue
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has denied any involvement in a planned protest against the recent fuel price hike, reportedly scheduled for September 15, 2024.
NANS Senate President Afeez Akinteye, in a statement on Wednesday, dismissed the reports as baseless and insisted that the association does not support any actions that could lead to civil unrest or disrupt public order.
Akinteye clarified that NANS remains committed to peaceful and constructive dialogue as the preferred means to address concerns over the fuel price hike.
He urged the public to disregard the false rumors and emphasized that the association has always been dedicated to maintaining peace and stability, especially during challenging times.
“The leadership of NANS has not announced or endorsed any protest,” Akinteye stated. “These reports do not reflect our position or intentions, and we categorically disassociate ourselves from any such plans.”
NANS also called on security agencies to investigate the origins of the misinformation, stressing that those responsible must be held accountable. The use of NANS’ name to spread unfounded claims, Akinteye said, is a threat to national security and undermines the legitimate efforts of students seeking positive change.
The association reassured its members and the public that it will continue to advocate for the rights and welfare of Nigerian students through peaceful, lawful, and constructive channels. “NANS stands firmly for peace, progress, and the unity of our nation,” Akinteye concluded, urging everyone to remain vigilant against those seeking to manipulate and mislead for their selfish gains.
